The UK Hydrological Outlook for November 2016 has been published

 

Following an exceptionally dry October across the majority of the UK, the outlook for November is for river flows to be below normal to normal across the UK, with below normal flows more likely in the south and east. Below normal to normal flows are likely to persist across the south and east of the UK over the next three to six months. Groundwater levels are expected to be within the normal range, except in areas of the southern Chalk which are likely to be below normal over the next three months.

Call for exhibits and activities at Into The Blue - NERC Exhibition

NERC is offering a free-to-exhibit opportunity for researchers to have an exhibition stand or run public engagement activities as part of our Into The Blue showcase, which is taking place in Manchester during October half-term (25-29 October 2016). Visitors to the event will be a broad public audience, primarily focused on families and young people.

Announcement of Opportunity: Soil Security

NERC is inviting proposals under the Soil Security programme for research projects costing between £150k and £250k (80% full economic cost), and of up to 24 months' duration.

Using natural processes to reduce flood risk - Call for participants

 

NERC invites applications to attend a jointly organised workshop with the Environment Agency (EA) and Department for Food, Environment & Rural Affairs (Defra) on 9 June 2016 on using natural processes to minimise flood risk.

NERC, the EA and Defra are interested in identifying the key environmental research priorities related to using natural processes to reduce flood risk, with a view to potentially developing a collaborative research programme in this area. To support this process a scoping workshop will be held on 9 June 2016.

Improving Health with Environmental Data call – Announcement of Opportunity

 

NERC, the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Scottish Government Chief Scientist Office (CSO) are investing up to £600,000 in projects to identify and fill knowledge gaps around the potential of environmental data to improve health outcomes in the UK. This call will focus specifically on using environmental data on air pollution and/or environmental hazards alongside health and biomedical data.
