Resilience of the UK food system in a global context - call now open

NERC as part of The Global Food Security (GFS) programme is pleased to announce that the first call of its new research programme 'Resilience of the UK food system in a global context' is now open.

The Global Food Security (GFS) programme is hosting a community building event in light of the call launch for applications to the ‘Resilience of the UK food system in a Global Context’ programme. This programme has been co-designed by BBSRC, ESRC, NERC, Defra and FSA in partnership with wider stakeholders to address the major food security challenge.

Pre-announcement of a joint NERC/AHRC/ESRC call on Managing the Environment to Improve Human health and wellbeing


The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC), are planning a major new investment as part of the Valuing Nature Programme.

The new call will provide an opportunity for natural and social scientists, and arts and humanities researchers to form substantial interdisciplinary research collaborations which aim to increase understanding of the role biodiversity and ecosystem processes play in human health and wellbeing. The focus of the call will on the themes of:

Big Data for Resilience: realising the benefits for developing countries - Scoping exercise call

This scoping exercise is part of the new Science for Humanitarian Emergencies and Resilience (SHEAR) programme. The programme aims to enable greater and more effective investment in disaster resilience and earlier action to respond to natural hazards by:
• providing decision makers with improved risk mapping and analyses
• event monitoring
• providing more reliable warning systems.
