The latest provisional statistics from the Met Office confirm December has broken records both for rainfall and temperature
The month was not only the wettest December on record, but also the wettest calendar month overall since records* began in 1910, while 2015 is the sixth wettest year on record (dating back to 1910).
The Met Office has released its new five year Science Strategy outlining its plans for weather and climate science 2016-2021.
This strategy aims to deliver science with impact, maximising the benefit to society of our weather and climate expertise, and making the most of the UK government's investment in Met Office high performance computing.
Professor Dame Julia Slingo , Met Office Chief Scientist, said: "Our science underpins the weather and climate services that we deliver to protect the public, help businesses and advise government.
The Water Security Knowledge Exchange Portal supports the objectives of the UK Water Partnership - a collaboration between the water industry, policy and research communities. It provides guidance and co-ordination for water research and innovation in the UK.
