Groundwater data

The lists below show spatial and time-series groundwater-related datasets.

Spatial

Groundwater WFD Classification Status Data (EA)

A spreadsheet, produced by the Environment Agency, showing the classification status and environmental objectives for the Water Framework Directive for groundwater bodies across all River Basin Districts in England and Wales.

Hydrogeological Maps (BGS)

Hydrogeological maps at a national scale for England & Wales and Scotland bring basic geological information together with data on the hydraulic and hydrochemical characteristics of the rocks and their usefulness for groundwater supply.

Susceptibility to Groundwater Flooding Maps (BGS)

The British Geological Survey produced national hazard dataset for groundwater flooding for Great Britain at a scale of 1:50 000. Based on geological and hydrogeological information, the digital data can be used to identify areas where geological conditions could enable groundwater flooding to occur and where groundwater may come close to the ground surface.

Time series

Groundwater Level Data (BGS)

The National Groundwater Level Archive held by the British Geological Survey records measurements of the depth below the ground surface of the water table, or its height above sea level across 181 sites in the UK.

Well Level Data (BGS)

The National Well Record Archive held by the British Geological Survey is a collection of over 105 000 records of springs, water wells and water boreholes in England, Wales and Scotland. The majority of the original records are available as borehole scans.
